About 200 people marched along the A27 on Saturday 12th May to protest about the proposed New Monks Farm development.
The march included many Adur Green Party members alongside participants from the other local parties, including Shoreham & East Worthing MP, Tim Loughton.
Many people were objecting in particular to the proposed IKEA store, which is likely to bring up to a million additional car journeys per year on the already extremely congested section of the A27 between Shoreham and Lancing.
Others were there objecting to the increase in air pollution which will result from the various uses planned for the land. Air quality is already an issue for people living near to the A27 and is predicted to worsen under proposed plans.
Many on the march agreed that we need new affordable homes for local people to buy & rent but felt that the suitability of the New Monks Farm site is questionnable.
New Monks farm is on the flood plain of the river Adur. The transport links are very poor with no regular bus services, cycling in the area is hazardous and walking routes have inadequate safe crossing points.
