Greens Support Adur Council Chair's Plea for Greater Public Engagement

18 May 2018

Green Party members attended the Adur District Council Annual Meeting on 17 May 2018.

Adur District Council members in a meetingWe were in the public seats to see Joss Loader (Ind) sworn in as Chair of ADC for the next 12 months with George Barton (Con) as vice Chair.

Joss Loader promised to work to raise greater awareness of and public engagement with the Council. This is something which we as Greens are very much behind and drew attention to in our recent election campaign.

The Conservatives retained overall control of ADC (Con 16, Ind 2, Lab 7, UKIP 4), so apart from changes to the proportionate allocation of seats on committees there are no fundamental changes to the decision making structure. Neil Parkin (Con) was elected Council Leader.

As the work of ADC progresses, Adur Greens will be looking to show support for those Councillors who are community leaders on environmental issues and who engage with community interest groups, where there are often fresh ideas.
